Managing Pain Without Opioids:
Why You Should Consider Acupuncture

Opioids are a class of drugs used to treat pain.  The most commonly prescribed opioids are oxycodone (OxyContin), hydrocodone (Vicodin), morphine, and methadone.  According to the CDC, the number of prescription opioids sold in the United States and the number of deaths from prescription opioid has quadrupled since 1999. Concerns over the rising epidemic of opioid addiction has lead many to explore alternatives, such as acupuncture, for chronic pain relief.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reviewed studies of 16,000 using alternative treatments for pain.  See how acupuncture ranked.

What's all the talk about Cupping?

Olympic athletes have joined the growing number of celebrities and people worldwide experiencing the benefits of Cupping.

Cupping has been a standard therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over three thousand years.  Suction is created in glass, plastic, or silicone cups. When placed on the skin the underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup.  The cups can be left in place for 5-20 minutes or glided over the skin.  Cupping relaxes the muscles, improve the circulation of blood, lymph, and Qi(energy), warms muscles and joints, releases toxins, and relieves pain.

Are you interested in trying cupping?
Call for an appointment today.  At Young Acupuncture, I do traditional "fire cupping" and modern manual cupping.
