But these gems are not just 'Gifts of the Magi'

Frankincense and Myrrh have been used medicinally in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for 5,000 years.  Frankincense (Ru Xiang in Chinese medicine) is a resin that comes from the sap of the Boswellia tree. Myrrh (Mo Yao) is also a resin that comes from the sap of the Commiphora tree.

Medicinally these "herbs" are used to:
~ promote blood circulation

~ reduce inflammation
~ heal wounds
~ relieve pain

They are commonly used together in formulas for trauma, pain, inflammation, and women's health.

Frankincense and Myrrh have a long spiritual, symbolic, and economic history.  Frankincense was often burned as incense during spiritual practices and used as perfume.  Myrrh was used in anointing oils and embalming.
